Independence Day
This artwork, comprising sixty-eight abstract human figures made in glass,
commemorates Ghana's 68th Independence Day, celebrated in March 2025, and
responds to political narratives that have emerged following independence.
The artwork draws a comparison between people and glass as both strong and
simultaneously fragile. It emphasises the need for Ghanaian people to unite and
work towards a common goal, holding politicians accountable for the promises they
made on and after Independence Day.
The artworks were created using glass powders fired at high temperatures to bond
the particles together, and a waterjet cutter was used to cut the glass into the
required shape before being cold-fused to form the final shape.
