My Winter and Summer
Project Type
Glass Sculpture
Date
April 2022
Location
National Glass Centre
This artwork uses a folding wooden chair to explore identity, movement, and contrast between Ghanaian summer and English winter. The vibrant Akan-inspired textile represents Ghana—warmth, community, memory, and cultural visibility—while the restrained wooden frame and folding structure evoke England, suggesting cold, adaptation, and endurance. Together, these elements hold summer within winter, turning an everyday object into a metaphor for migration and diasporic experience. The work speaks to resilience and hybridity, showing how cultural identity is carried, preserved, and re-negotiated across different climates, places, and ways of living
